I generally avoid popular rule systems like the plague (I'm a born contrarian), Midgard has certainly piqued my interest. So I bit the bullet and ordered a dead-tree copy. I like what I read. Like them enough that I invested a bit of time in creating my own impedimenta for the game: markers to show charging/winning status, shot status, my own measuring sticks. I scoured the internet to find just the right beads to represent reputation points (black buttons with stars and moons) and mighty deeds (Norse rune inspired 'beard beads'). I greatly enjoyed making my own greek myth inspired boxes to hold the reputation beads. (I call them Pandora's boxes.)
And since all my Trojan War figures are based singly I used scrap 3mm plywood and book-board (thick chipboard) to create movement stands of the recommended sizes: 120mm by 60mm for 28mm figures. I wanted to keep the movement stands plain because I have quite a few Greeks, Romans and Gauls based for Impetus on 120mm wide bases as well as a number of old 28mm DBA armies on 60mm wide bases. In Impetus and DBA, depth of the base varies depending on troop type. But, the stands for both these games will comfortably fit on the Midgard bases. However, I don't want to attach anything permanently to the Midgard stands so I'm trying something new: using blue-tac to temporarily mount the figures to the Midgard bases.
In general, I am a fan of textured bases. I've developed a basing technique that satisfies my visual tastes. The plain flat movement stands left me feeling 'meh'. Consequently, I painted the new stands with my typical base colors to try and camouflage them. Hopefully, they won't be too distracting.
We'll see how well it works. It's certainly a budget friendly solution!
